Rose Oliver was one of a group of 18 foreign experts that were recently invited to visit Hainan Island by Shanghai Municipal Government’s Foreign Expert Bureau.

The annual trip was organized and sponsored by the Shanghai Municipal Government’s Foreign Expert Bureau and the group of foreign experts consisted of those resident in Shanghai for several years and who have made a contribution to Shanghai and China, through their work and efforts. The 5 day trip, was a “thank you” to them as a reward for their hard work over the years and also an opportunity for them to provide feedback to the Shanghai Municipal Government’s Foreign Expert Bureau on matters related to expatriates’ lives here in Shanghai and for them to offer suggestions for any additional help or service the government could give foreigners living and working in Shanghai.
The trip was a marvelously welcome change to the cold Shanghai weather, with a chance to enjoy the warmth and delights of Hainan Island’s beautiful weather, food and amenities. Our kind hosts provided us with an array of fun activities, as well as sightseeing around some of Hainan’s most beautiful and scenic spots. We were treated to the best the island could offer and our hosts were extremely hospitable, helpful, friendly and kind throughout.

We all had a wonderful time and were cared for superbly. It also gave the foreign experts a chance to get to know other expats living in Shanghai and to make new friends, as well as enjoy the company of our hosts.

Thank you very much to all the members of the Shanghai Municipal Government’s Foreign Expert Bureau, for their hospitality, friendliness and care. It was a wonderful trip and I hope that we will have further chances to meet and enjoy each other’s company again in the not too distant future.
